Grantham Museum is delighted to launch an exciting new series of talks exploring the dramatic events and defining moments of 20th-century international history. Presented by historian and local heritage champion Lee Steptoe, the 20th Century International History series promises engaging insights into the forces that shaped the modern world.

There will be ten monthly talks running throughout 2026, participants will be invited to dive into pivotal themes—from the rivalries that divided Europe at the turn of the century to the geopolitical struggles that defined the Cold War. The series takes place on the last Friday of each month at 2 pm at Grantham Museum and forms a unique opportunity for history lovers to deepen their understanding of global events through accessible and thought-provoking discussion.

Lee Steptoe, born and raised in Grantham, brings over 30 years of experience teaching history in the community and serving as a town and district councillor. His lifelong interest in the narratives that connect local experience with global history has long made him a valued voice in heritage education. As a Trustee of Grantham Museum, Lee believes that learning from the past is essential to shaping a better future.

The series begins on Friday 27th February 2026 with Europe in 1900, a talk examining why Europe was divided into competing power blocs at the dawn of the century and how tensions quickly escalated towards conflict. Subsequent sessions will cover topics including the outbreak and course of the First World War, the rise of dictators in the 1930s, the Second World War, the onset of the Cold War, and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union.

A Series Ticket is now available, giving attendees access to all ten lectures at a special rate. Tickets are priced between £30–£38, with discounted options for Friends of Grantham Museum members. Individual talks can also be booked separately.

All talks include refreshments, and booking information can be found at the Museum’s website. Whether you are a student of history, a lifelong learner, or simply curious about the forces that shaped the modern era, this captivating lecture series promises something for everyone.
