Children in Need is the BBC’s flagship charity, raising money to help disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. It has been running for over 40 years and has raised over £1 billion in that time.

The charity supports a wide range of causes, including children living in poverty, with disabilities, victims of abuse and negligence, children with mental health difficulties, and children who are homeless or care experienced.

Children in Need’s money is used to fund projects that provide practical support to children and young people, such as food banks, after-school clubs, and counselling services. It also funds research into child poverty and disadvantage.

The charity’s annual telethon, which is broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two, is a highlight of the British TV calendar. It features a variety of entertainment, including celebrity performances, sketches, and interviews. The telethon is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges facing disadvantaged children and young people, and to encourage people to donate.

In recent years, the need for Children in Need’s work has grown greater. Child poverty is on the rise, and more and more children are facing mental health challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a devastating impact on many children and families.

On this Children in Need Day, we urge everyone to do what they can to help. You can donate money, volunteer your time, or simply help to raise awareness of the charity’s work. Together, we can make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
