Attended or Unattended Funerals?
At Robert Holland Funeral Directors we offer the option of an attended or unattended funeral. In most cases the attended funeral is by far the most popular choice as this type of service allows for full personalisation of all of the arrangements, but in certain circumstances some families may wish for a Direct Cremation or Unattended Funeral. There are several reasons why someone might opt for a Direct Cremation rather than the formality of a traditional attended funeral service. Regardless of the reason for choosing an attended or unattended funeral, we’ve detailed below what you can expect from both these types of service, outlining their differences to help you make an informed choice.
What can I expect at an unattended funeral?
Providing a dignified farewell without the formality of a traditional funeral, an unattended funeral has no service and no family or friends are able to attend. Often called a direct funeral, or a direct cremation, an unattended service is appealing to those people who would prefer to have no ceremony or service. That may be because they wish to hold a separate service of thanksgiving or remembrance at a later date, or it may be because their wishes were not to have a ‘traditional’ funeral service where family and friends can attend and pay their respects. At Robert Holland Funeral Directors you can be assured that whether you choose an unattended or attended service we will always transport your loved one in a traditional hearse with a full team of uniformed pall bearers and that the cremation will be arranged locally.
What can I expect at an attended funeral?
An attended funeral is the most traditional type of funeral, which is accompanied by a service for family and friends. Whether you choose a cremation or burial, this will proceed in similar ways. At Robert Holland Funeral Directors, we’re proud to arrange a fully personalised funeral for your loved one, in line with their wishes. A traditional attended funeral usually takes place around three to four weeks or so after the person has died. However, the timing of this type of funeral can vary depending on a number of different circumstances and your personal requirements.
You’ll be able to discuss the availability of your family and friends, vehicles, music, type of coffin and all the elements of service that are needed for the funeral, when making arrangements with Robert Holland Funeral Directors. Please be assured that whichever type of funeral service you require, Our vast local knowledge, coupled with many years’ experience in the funeral directing profession mean that we can offer a very personal level of service that is specific to your own requirements.
