Grantham’s Savoy Cinema opened in July 2019 and quickly established itself as a modern entertainment hub at the heart of the town’s civic regeneration. Located on St Catherine’s Road near St Peter’s Hill, it replaced a former outdated cinema and day centre as part of South Kesteven District Council’s efforts to revitalise Grantham’s town centre.
The purpose-built multiplex houses five auditoria with stadium seating for around 650–700 guests across the complex. Its flagship Screen 1 features the UK’s first Barco Series 4 RGB laser projector paired with Dolby Atmos immersive sound, creating a premium Vertex 4K experience. Other screens support digital 2D, 3D and subtitled screenings, catering to diverse audiences including parent-and-baby shows, the Kids Club weekend morning films, and senior friendly Silver Screen events.
Since opening, the cinema has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors and quickly became a local favourite for its high-quality seating, good prices, and friendly service. Screen 1 was upgraded in mid-2024 with electric recliner seats, enhancing overall comfort. The Savoy also hosts film festivals, classic movie nights, live streams of theatre, ballet and opera, and themed charity events.
Beyond films, the venue plays a growing community role. It recently hosted a Business Breakfast on behalf of INVEST SK, welcoming around 100 local professionals and serving locally sourced breakfast rolls. Private hire is available for corporate events, children’s parties, and community gatherings, supported by accessible facilities, a dedicated foyer space linking to local arts venues, and adjacent retail units planned to further energise the area.
Parking is convenient with nearby managed car parks offering subsidised rates for cinemagoers. Grantham’s Savoy also supports local initiatives, offering discounted morning screenings for seniors which include refreshments, and has invited suggestions for commemorations of significant events like World War II anniversaries.
In every sense, the Savoy Cinema embodies a new generation of regional cinemas: technologically advanced, community-focused, and well-integrated into Grantham’s urban renewal and social life.
